Teen accused of stealing weapons from sheriff’s vehicle

A 14-year-old Sunflower boy is in hot water with county law enforcement after he allegedly took a shotgun and a .22 caliber handgun from Sheriff James Haywood’s vehicle
The sheriff’s truck was parked at his residence on Saturday morning, and according to Haywood, both weapons were recovered without incident.






South Sunflower County Hospital celebrates $9.5M expansion

South Sunflower County Hospital is making new history.
Last Friday, the community gathered on the grounds outside of the newly-renovated hospital to finally cut the ribbon on its $9.5 million renovation and expansion.
“This facility has come a long ways,” said hospital administrator Courtney Phillips.

City says “Concerned Citizens” group can’t meet in public building

After a lengthy debate, the Indianola Board of Aldermen voted 3 to 2 against allowing use of a city-owned building to the Concerned Citizens Committee to conduct its regular monthly meetings.
Alderman Marvin Elder made the motion to allow.
“Let’s not hold them up,” he said. Alderman Ruben Woods seconded and they both voted yes.
