After a lengthy debate, the Indianola Board of Aldermen voted 3 to 2 against allowing use of a city-owned building to the Concerned Citizens Committee to conduct its regular monthly meetings.
Alderman Marvin Elder made the motion to allow.
“Let’s not hold them up,” he said. Alderman Ruben Woods seconded and they both voted yes.
There was a lot of gavel banging at Monday night’s Indianola Board of Aldermen session.
One issue involved the city’s animal shelter.
Due to the Gentry High School basketball playoff game in Jackson on Thursday March 1, the first of two planned public meetings to discuss school safety in the educational facilities in the county has been rescheduled for Wednesday March 7 at 6 p.m.
The Merritt Jr. High School Boys Basketball team is the Sunflower County Consolidated School District 2017-2018 middle school district champions having finished out the year with a 14-2 overall record and a 3-1 placement in district play.
Indianola Academy will be holding a fundraising auction at the Indianola Country Club on Friday night. This is the first auction the school has conducted in three years. The silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., with the live auction kicking off at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance (can be purchased at IA) and $15 at the door.
The Sunflower County NAACP Branch #5333 will host its annual Black History Program on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.
