Merritt students get dose of reality at financial literacy fair

The staff along with the seventh and eighth grade students at Merritt Jr. High held a Reality Fair on March 21 in order to expose the students to a taste of real world experiences.

Also known as a “Financial Reality Fair,” the event was designed to be an interactive financial literacy tool for high school students.




Janet Davis Circle shooting leaves one injured, police now seeking answers

An early morning shooting on Tuesday left an Indianola man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his right leg.
Jakevius Tyler, 19, was shot around 4:39 a.m., on April 3, on Janet Davis Circle.
Sgt. Irish Johnson said it is unclear where the shooting took place or the reason for it because the victim is not talking.








Multi-jurisdictional task force effort nabs five alleged drug dealers in Sunflower County

As of Tuesday, five men were behind bars at the Sunflower County jail on drug-related charges.

A multi-jurisdictional task force made up of the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department, the Indianola and Moorhead police departments and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics converged upon Sunflower County on Monday.
