The college basketball season is heading ever so rapidly toward March Madness, which in Mississippi means the presentation of the C Spire Howell and Gillom trophies for the state’s most outstanding players.
One winner would appear much more clear than the other.
With six returning starters ready to take the field, the Gentry High Lady Rams fast-pitch softball team will open its season Tuesday at home.
Serving as the Lady Rams’ opening competition at 4:30 p.m. will be J.Z. George High of North Carrollton.
After opening the 2017 baseball season by splitting their first pair of games, the Indianola Academy Colonels now face three games in five days.
The Colonels most recently were dealt a 2-1 loss by Washington School in Greenville Tuesday night.
Postseason basketball action has officially begun statewide.
And Wednesday night served as the opening game for both Gentry High basketball teams as they participated in the Region 3-4A Tournament hosted by Greenwood High School.
