I’d like to express my deepest personal sympathies to the family of Aaron Beamon following his death last week. Losing a son, father, brother or close friend is a terribly difficult thing, especially under tragic circumstances like this.

The numbers are scary. Sunflower County’s population shrunk at the second-highest rate in Mississippi between 2010 and 2016, according to census estimates. The county lost 10.3 percent of its population — more than 3,000 people — in just six years.
