County faces tough decision as school facilities fall further into decay

On rainy days, the grounds of Gentry High School flood, the roofs leak and the awnings over the walkways leak water on students as they enter the building.
Even on sunny days, the facilities around the Indianola portion of the Sunflower County Consolidated School District experience plumbing issues and broken HVAC systems.

Second mayoral forum to address economic development, infrastructure

The second of two mayoral forums featuring the three Democratic party candidates for Indianola’s mayoral post will be held next Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Sunflower County Courthouse.
The Sunflower County Branch No. 5333 of the NAACP is hosting the forum.
The organization hosted a forum at Gentry High School in early September.

How did area colleges fare in recent enrollment numbers?

Delta State University and Mississippi Valley State University were two of only four Mississippi four-year public colleges to gain in enrollment, according to a recent report.
The Cleveland-based university at Delta State grew more than any other public university at a 5.3 percent rate. Alcorn was second at 5 percent.

Agencies to host Indianola town hall to address opioid abuse

Multiple Mississippi agencies will host a town hall meeting in Indianola on Sept. 19 to address the growing impact of opioids in Mississippi communities.
According to a release from the Mississippi Department of Health this week, the meeting will take place at the Charles W. Capps Jr. Technology Center at 6:30 p.m. that day.
